Regulations and Legal Obligations

There are countless of associations and organisations worldwide – including several in the UK who represent those who carry out the profession of the Massage Therapist. Most of these have a Code of Ethics and Practice seeking to protect the public and maintain professional standards.

 

In the UK, the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) was established with government support to regulate the following complementary therapies with the key purpose to protect the public: Alexander Technique teaching; Aromatherapy; Bowen Therapy; Craniosacral Therapy; Healing; Hypnotherapy; Massage Therapy; Microsystems Acupuncture; Naturopathy; Nutritional Therapy; Reflexology; Reiki; Shiatsu; Sports Therapy; Yoga Therapy.

 

The CThA (Complementary Therapists Association) and FHT (Federation of Holistic Therapists ) are two of the leading professional associations for massage therapists in the UK and Ireland which work closely with government-backed authorities in the fields of education, regulation, and business skills and enterprise, to help shape and improve the industry.
